I got frightened by the Phantom alright

Ah finally had enough energy to blog on my yesterday's outing and abit of todays.
Well we headed to Esplanade for Phantom of the Opera. Quited excited coz 1)I havent been to the Durian (Blame me for being ulu after 2 yrs in SG) 2) the show DUh!
Collected the tickets and do a bit of shopping. Did some window shopping and no sooner, had lunch at New York New York. We didn't have much choice tho, coz CityLink Mall is such a small place, not much eateries around, and mum doesnt fancy American/Western food. No pics to show coz this restaurant no website de.
By my mum's request, I ordered the BBQ Spare Ribs. She doesn't want it for herself but wants me to have it instead grrrr. She ordered Penne Aglio Olio with mushrooms. Being the greedy me, I ordered Roasted Mushroom Cappucino Soup. Sounds wierd rite??Being the greedy mum:P, she ordered a waffle with honey ice cream.
The spare ribs tasted like char siew la. Donno why is it called "american" food when the food's so oriental. Oh dear and the ribs were HUGE!(k la with quite alot of bones). Imagine big ppl like me cannot finish what more YOu!!! The soup wus...err..creamy??Wierd taste tho, coz there's cappucino with the froth and cocoa powder on top. Confirm lose to TGI's. Mum's waffle was good though although abit sweet (Honey ma). Waffle wus nice( the very big squared waffle not the semi-circle one). I like the honey and the ice cream too!!Total:$40 plus. Mum said "If we everyday it liddat pokkai loo" I wus like "Haiyah, today we quite greedy ler" She said "Yahor"

Then it was just time to head back to Esplanade to catch the show *Warning:long story below*
I got the restricted view tickets at $40 each, so you can predict how our seats were like. LouSY!I just have no idea how the heck did i chose the seats and pardon me coz i havent been to esplanade so i dun really have a good gage on the stage and all (BUt NOw i DO).
The balcony "restricts view" on the left side of the stage. So yea i couldnt watch what wus happening on the left side. I had to sit side ways lo, no leaning. So u can imagine the backache i had after 2.5 hours of the show. Programme booklet was $25 la. Ex..but I would love to have it tho,Din buy. Ok so the show started off with the auction scene, and when the ppl displayed the Chandelier (I cant remember whether it popped or smthing) and the Chandelier went right up with the orchestra playing. Really amazing man that chandelier. Although this is a musical, their singing is more towards to opera direction. NOtice that the female lead herself is a lyrical coloratura. I really love Brad Little as the phantom. He played Raoul when he started out and he's the phantom now. The Phantom needs this very loud and deep voice and of course, TECHNique la! The ladies:Christine and Carlotta were very operatic one lo. I think their highest note they hit was probably C or E. Carlotta tho good singing, disappoints me. When they start hitting their high notes then confirm cannot hear what lyrics they singing. When chrstine sings in her normal speaking range its ok. Then when she starts going to the high notes, using full vibrato then her lyrics will sound very muffled. This is really tricky but it's the amateur who is COMMENTING here. Raoul looks handsome guah (cant really see their faces from my view). BUt his voice cannot beat the Phantom's. BUt i guess its meant to be liddat coz Raoul's voice is supposed to be sweet. There were quite a few scenes where many people sing together: One is where they were questioning those whether those similar looking notes were from the Phantom (Raoul, Carlotta, Christine, the managers, etc) and the memorable one towards the end (Raoul, Phantom and Christine). Nice chords and all, BUT yet again disappointed, they somehow just sound muffled to my ears. Oh and did I mentioned i freaked out during certain scenes?Chicken me lo. I mean the Phantom is quite a dark musical, even u read the novel you will know that.
There were blank gun shots during a few scenes. Scared me la, poppop sound (That's why I'm afraid of balloons too). Then the Phantom will just appear out of nowhere scary la. And the best part wus the last scene. Got magic somore. the Phantom covers himself in the cape. And when Meg opened the cape he was gone.Magic hor.
Anywayz the sets were also amazing. One thing that intrigues my curiosity is how do they move the sets so swiftly and how are they built blablabla (I know technology la). Coz in hall they built by scratch looks..errr..nvm.then all manual one. The river scene in the undertunnel was nice la. They used loads of smoke.Guess the conductor smell so much for two months also will faint la. Then there's this bridge that leads to the undertunnel. Then the MIRROR-which has the phantom's image but he's not there. And it flips too. So freaking cool la. NOt to forget the chandelier. the phantom also hides at the back of the stone angel and SO MANY places. Ok shall stop now.Pictures...

The magnificent Chandelier.Notice the golden statues at the side

Interior of the theatre

These pictures weren't easy to come by as supposedly No PIctures were allowed in the theatre. There wus even a security check in Esplanade. They use sticks to check what's inside your bag. It's a good thing they have security, which i thought was totally LAME though. So during intermission i took some pictures la or not i wont have pictures to show. And these lady usherer came over "Excuse me, can you delete the photo that u have just took coz it will infringe copyrights" WTF!!!i took a few olredi, and i thought that was my last shot. Anywayz *evil grinz*, I pretend that i Wanted to delete but in the end i didn't. Dude or AUNTY or whatever, if you think stopping ppl from taking pictures due to COPYright will lead to less IP disputes, then go act on YOUTUBE first la BIatch. *K nvrmind just trying to act angry* And if the photos are going to be used for personal reasons, then I dun see the need for us NOT to take pictures. Unless we were going to sell the photos or whatever. Then later she went happily catching ppl who flipped their phones open. Like nothing better to liddat. Then I observed, every level got those usherers fixing their eyes on those like me. Then when the show resumed, the guy bside me kena too. she tot he taking photos but he said "BUt i didn't take photos". In summary, the whole balcony got saboed ler!!!So i think rite this usherers are downright stupid!!!Really STupid..Baka..blablabla..*End*

Next up we went shopping la of course. Went to Marina Square see see looklook. Then later went orchard coz aunt said OG has a 20 percent storewide discount. It's a good thing i went there coz i bought a dress from Arthur Yen there. Nah show u. Dress cost $63 after discount. Considered quite reasonable. BUt Today at VivoCity they have dresses at $39 ok!!!Dang!!!

Me new dress. Pls say it's nice

So later I saw ISLand Creamery in Orchard, issit Centrepoint or smthing? Then I quickly dragged my mother, she was about to leave the shopping area. "Wey got teh tarik Ice-cream, the one i wanted you to try" Then we had ICE CREAM b4 dinner..(dun do this pls) Teh tarik and chendol.
Authentic flavours rite. And nevertheless, we had problems finishing our dinner. Teh Tarik and Chendol Ice Cream

Today, we went to VivoCity cum Harbourfront Centre. Went windowshopping, seriously starting to get sian with shopping. Had lunch at Sushi Tei with Mum's old friend. Chicken don, Oh the salmon so small lei, but was a nice restaurant, the ambience and all. The view is amazing la, overlooking Harbourfront. Keke you can see the sushi belt and the guy making them. My mum says their Sushi looks bigger than those at Don Sushi. argh and I had Macha ice cream.*Mum said too much ice-cream these days*

Yep I'm quite tired now. Going to do what I'm supposed to do in the next few days: Haircut, work preparation(hope it won't be too bad), Desaru trip with friends. Till then

toodles

Friday marked my freedom

27/04/07: I stayed up till 3am just to finish my chinese revision and past yr papers and woke up at 9am. Later I had to visit the doctor at NUH. Argh, I forgot to bring CASH!No money to EAT! so can taupau for me and my mum who's coming later. Blurdy doctor ask me to take blood test, and i thought i wus supposed to take it the next visit. I angrily thought to myself"u want me to pening my self b4 my 2.30pm paper meh?". it took blurdy long b4 i got back to Hall at 2pm and my mum was already waiting for me.Passed her the keys and went for my exam.
Dang the exam was damn hard la dude! The susun ayat part ah...KILLER..anywayz wus so happy when the thing's over. Went and had subway with mum since we all din have lunch.
Met up with aunt and family for dinner at IMM. Dinner sucked-Can u imagine pan mian cooked halal? The pan mian (or rather, mee hoon kuay) were like in lumps, good MHK don't stick together. Later went shopping, donno spend how much. Two skirts, two pairs of contact lenses, and a pair of shoe. Speaking of contact lenses, the optometrist checked my power, it wus 4 yrs since i changed my specs. So, my right eye had a 50 increase in power. Left eye 100 increase.WTF???When i always change to a new set of specs then few years it will increase. So i rather not change it..so after four years it will stay the same.
Ok might be a stupid plan but STILL...
Very tired.Altho exam's over, i slept for like 6 hrs a day. So many things to do, so little time. Dun even have time to blog also.

Shall reserve the good stuff tmr:Phantom of the Opera, Orchard spree, more Island Creamery haha

Toodles

PS:I needed tonnes of support lei. Know my blogging skills not so good. But keep the comments coming.:)

Yesterday's trip

Yesterday(Friday ler), me and Hui En went to BTC law library to Study. I woke up earlier than my usual wake up time and we left at about nine. Ok, the real reason for me going there is to err..look at the beautiful campus AND have some ISLAND CREAMERY ICE CREAM. More on that later:P

I thought I cud catch some sleep on the bus but apparently the bus was so fast (like 15 minutes) and tadah, we were in BTC olredi. I realli love the buildings, looks colonial, like heritage buildings when the British was here. I guess it was there since their colonial rule haha. Just that the buildings were given new douse of paint, better architectural design, abit of touch up and fixing..a BEAUTIFUl CAMPUS. I thought I would sulk coz at first BUsiness and Law were to move together to the new BTC. BUt after that, they decided the only LAW will move there. There's a really big field in between buildings, used to be a soccer field. Back in those days where SMU and NTU had BTC as their uni campus, i think that served as a sports field.
It's really so quiet and comfy, but boo I didn't snap any pics.
You shud go take a look at their seminar rooms: the exterior, nostalgic interior so modern.
But the law library not as good as old one la..plus i dun like the chairs..so not comfy
The food there...SOSO..i went for the makansutra stall, apparently they were on Channel U b4 and serve BeefBall Kuay Teow and the like. I really love the beef balls, but consider overall not very good la..sososo..Variety of Food also very limited, chicken rice stall, chai fan, and this noodle stall plus drinks..BOORING rite?
Anywayz, I wasn't doing much studying that day. I'm just so bored circulating the same topic APB, i really think reading further won't help cuz its an open book exam. We're supposed to think on the spot.
The highlight of the day:ISLAND CREAMERY got me really excited. Feel so bad for pulling Hui-En into eating ice cream with me b4 dinner(and that definitely spoiled our appetite during dinner haha). I was quite shocked to see that the parlour was damn FULL. All the JC kids having secondary school reunions according to Hui En. We got the TEH TARIk Ice cream and HOrlicks Ice cream. The TEh Tarik ice cream is their signature flavour-and this was the one that wanted me coming to try. Where else can you get Teh Tarik dude? the Horlicks was well, HOrlicks la nothing special, but its interesting. Teh Tarik really has this strong Teh plus Condensed Milk taste in it, every bit ur Teh Tarik drink made into an ice cream.
Hui-En said it was equivalent to going to Mamak, but in ice cream portions lol. Besides, they also have burnt caramel(funny name), black forest(ooh i wanna try), soursop(hui-en's nxt trip flavour), nutella, reversO(chocolate with oreo bits) and many more la.
I heard they even had TIGER BEER sorbet which was only available during NDP. BUt i dun fret not having it coz i dun take alcohol. Ohoh i forgot they also have PULUT HITAm flavoured ice cream, but i dun recall seeing it yesterday.
Single Scoop$2.50;Double Scoop$4.00;One tub$8
If you want to share with ur fren get the Double Scoop (Duh!) and i think the Tub is really worth it. I donno how many ml's the tub but i cant imagine only having four scoops in that tub considering two scoops is $4.
I'm so determined to bring my Momma when she comes next week so she can have a taste of Teh Tarik Ice Cream.

Ok back to study mode. bored to the max.

Next trip: Botak Jones, Deep Fried Mars bar at Chippys plus THREE MONTh INTENSIVE WORK OUT to burn those unwanted calories:)
