I got frightened by the Phantom alright

Ah finally had enough energy to blog on my yesterday's outing and abit of todays.
Well we headed to Esplanade for Phantom of the Opera. Quited excited coz 1)I havent been to the Durian (Blame me for being ulu after 2 yrs in SG) 2) the show DUh!
Collected the tickets and do a bit of shopping. Did some window shopping and no sooner, had lunch at New York New York. We didn't have much choice tho, coz CityLink Mall is such a small place, not much eateries around, and mum doesnt fancy American/Western food. No pics to show coz this restaurant no website de.
By my mum's request, I ordered the BBQ Spare Ribs. She doesn't want it for herself but wants me to have it instead grrrr. She ordered Penne Aglio Olio with mushrooms. Being the greedy me, I ordered Roasted Mushroom Cappucino Soup. Sounds wierd rite??Being the greedy mum:P, she ordered a waffle with honey ice cream.
The spare ribs tasted like char siew la. Donno why is it called "american" food when the food's so oriental. Oh dear and the ribs were HUGE!(k la with quite alot of bones). Imagine big ppl like me cannot finish what more YOu!!! The soup wus...err..creamy??Wierd taste tho, coz there's cappucino with the froth and cocoa powder on top. Confirm lose to TGI's. Mum's waffle was good though although abit sweet (Honey ma). Waffle wus nice( the very big squared waffle not the semi-circle one). I like the honey and the ice cream too!!Total:$40 plus. Mum said "If we everyday it liddat pokkai loo" I wus like "Haiyah, today we quite greedy ler" She said "Yahor"

Then it was just time to head back to Esplanade to catch the show *Warning:long story below*
I got the restricted view tickets at $40 each, so you can predict how our seats were like. LouSY!I just have no idea how the heck did i chose the seats and pardon me coz i havent been to esplanade so i dun really have a good gage on the stage and all (BUt NOw i DO).
The balcony "restricts view" on the left side of the stage. So yea i couldnt watch what wus happening on the left side. I had to sit side ways lo, no leaning. So u can imagine the backache i had after 2.5 hours of the show. Programme booklet was $25 la. Ex..but I would love to have it tho,Din buy. Ok so the show started off with the auction scene, and when the ppl displayed the Chandelier (I cant remember whether it popped or smthing) and the Chandelier went right up with the orchestra playing. Really amazing man that chandelier. Although this is a musical, their singing is more towards to opera direction. NOtice that the female lead herself is a lyrical coloratura. I really love Brad Little as the phantom. He played Raoul when he started out and he's the phantom now. The Phantom needs this very loud and deep voice and of course, TECHNique la! The ladies:Christine and Carlotta were very operatic one lo. I think their highest note they hit was probably C or E. Carlotta tho good singing, disappoints me. When they start hitting their high notes then confirm cannot hear what lyrics they singing. When chrstine sings in her normal speaking range its ok. Then when she starts going to the high notes, using full vibrato then her lyrics will sound very muffled. This is really tricky but it's the amateur who is COMMENTING here. Raoul looks handsome guah (cant really see their faces from my view). BUt his voice cannot beat the Phantom's. BUt i guess its meant to be liddat coz Raoul's voice is supposed to be sweet. There were quite a few scenes where many people sing together: One is where they were questioning those whether those similar looking notes were from the Phantom (Raoul, Carlotta, Christine, the managers, etc) and the memorable one towards the end (Raoul, Phantom and Christine). Nice chords and all, BUT yet again disappointed, they somehow just sound muffled to my ears. Oh and did I mentioned i freaked out during certain scenes?Chicken me lo. I mean the Phantom is quite a dark musical, even u read the novel you will know that.
There were blank gun shots during a few scenes. Scared me la, poppop sound (That's why I'm afraid of balloons too). Then the Phantom will just appear out of nowhere scary la. And the best part wus the last scene. Got magic somore. the Phantom covers himself in the cape. And when Meg opened the cape he was gone.Magic hor.
Anywayz the sets were also amazing. One thing that intrigues my curiosity is how do they move the sets so swiftly and how are they built blablabla (I know technology la). Coz in hall they built by scratch looks..errr..nvm.then all manual one. The river scene in the undertunnel was nice la. They used loads of smoke.Guess the conductor smell so much for two months also will faint la. Then there's this bridge that leads to the undertunnel. Then the MIRROR-which has the phantom's image but he's not there. And it flips too. So freaking cool la. NOt to forget the chandelier. the phantom also hides at the back of the stone angel and SO MANY places. Ok shall stop now.Pictures...

The magnificent Chandelier.Notice the golden statues at the side

Interior of the theatre

These pictures weren't easy to come by as supposedly No PIctures were allowed in the theatre. There wus even a security check in Esplanade. They use sticks to check what's inside your bag. It's a good thing they have security, which i thought was totally LAME though. So during intermission i took some pictures la or not i wont have pictures to show. And these lady usherer came over "Excuse me, can you delete the photo that u have just took coz it will infringe copyrights" WTF!!!i took a few olredi, and i thought that was my last shot. Anywayz *evil grinz*, I pretend that i Wanted to delete but in the end i didn't. Dude or AUNTY or whatever, if you think stopping ppl from taking pictures due to COPYright will lead to less IP disputes, then go act on YOUTUBE first la BIatch. *K nvrmind just trying to act angry* And if the photos are going to be used for personal reasons, then I dun see the need for us NOT to take pictures. Unless we were going to sell the photos or whatever. Then later she went happily catching ppl who flipped their phones open. Like nothing better to liddat. Then I observed, every level got those usherers fixing their eyes on those like me. Then when the show resumed, the guy bside me kena too. she tot he taking photos but he said "BUt i didn't take photos". In summary, the whole balcony got saboed ler!!!So i think rite this usherers are downright stupid!!!Really STupid..Baka..blablabla..*End*

Next up we went shopping la of course. Went to Marina Square see see looklook. Then later went orchard coz aunt said OG has a 20 percent storewide discount. It's a good thing i went there coz i bought a dress from Arthur Yen there. Nah show u. Dress cost $63 after discount. Considered quite reasonable. BUt Today at VivoCity they have dresses at $39 ok!!!Dang!!!

Me new dress. Pls say it's nice

So later I saw ISLand Creamery in Orchard, issit Centrepoint or smthing? Then I quickly dragged my mother, she was about to leave the shopping area. "Wey got teh tarik Ice-cream, the one i wanted you to try" Then we had ICE CREAM b4 dinner..(dun do this pls) Teh tarik and chendol.
Authentic flavours rite. And nevertheless, we had problems finishing our dinner. Teh Tarik and Chendol Ice Cream

Today, we went to VivoCity cum Harbourfront Centre. Went windowshopping, seriously starting to get sian with shopping. Had lunch at Sushi Tei with Mum's old friend. Chicken don, Oh the salmon so small lei, but was a nice restaurant, the ambience and all. The view is amazing la, overlooking Harbourfront. Keke you can see the sushi belt and the guy making them. My mum says their Sushi looks bigger than those at Don Sushi. argh and I had Macha ice cream.*Mum said too much ice-cream these days*

Yep I'm quite tired now. Going to do what I'm supposed to do in the next few days: Haircut, work preparation(hope it won't be too bad), Desaru trip with friends. Till then

toodles
